Winter is here, and it’s the best time to get back into beach body shape before summer approaches. While health and fitness are important to many, the demands of work and personal life can leave you feeling like there is literally not enough time in the day to try fit in a workout. However, just a few minutes of exercise a day can actually improve your health!

Whether it’s a quick 5-minute jog or an intense walk through a park, exercise can release endorphins that can help relieve stress, make you feel more relaxed and productive in your everyday life.

Here are 5 tips to help you get into a fit and healthy lifestyle

Set Short Term and Long Term Goals

When you set short-term goals it will keep you consistent daily, while long-term goals will challenge you out of your comfort zone. An example of a short-term goal could be avoiding desserts after dinner and rather enjoying one of our healthier dessert recipes using Nutrimax bars. A long-term goal could be to train and register for a walk or run.

Support

Reaching out to friends and family who have similar goals will help you reach your goals faster. It’s easier to motivate yourself in the mornings and evenings if you have a buddy that has the same goal as you. If your friends and family are not the best people to help you achieve your goals then join a Weight Watchers group or local walk or running club. Another alternative is to find an online weight loss forum for support and motivation.

Water

It’s recommended that 8 glasses or 2 litres of water is the preferred drinking amount to help keep you hydrated and assist in weight loss. Not only is water easily accessible, it also suppresses your appetite making it less likely for you to overeat. Always carry a water bottle on hand.

No time? Multitask!

Any activity that requires you to move your body is considered a workout. Walking is a great multi-tasking workout. Unless you have a medical condition that limits you from walking you can simply keep a pair of sneakers in your car or at work and during your lunch break when you are doing errands, step up the pace. Instead of strolling while shopping, kick it up a notch and walk a little faster. Take the stairs at work instead of heading straight to the lift. Mix exercise with family time by going out to a park where you can team up and play a game of football or take a walk along the beachfront promenade with your partner where you can enjoy the sunrise or sunset and get a workout.

Choose a balanced meal when ordering take out or dining out.

You choose what food you eat! When you dine out or get take-away, opt for a healthier, balanced portion of protein, carbohydrates and fats. If you head to a restaurant for instance opt for the grilled chicken with a side salad or a steak with vegetables instead of chips or baked potato.
